Remember when the Comm Course produced life changing wins?

Easily Confrontable :)

We had 30 people doing the Comm Course in one little room at the Mission where I started on the Bridge. The Course Supervisor watched the drills like a hawk and made sure that they were being done standardly. There was no pattycake drilling in her course room and the wins were fantastic.

My first win on the Comm Course was realizing that I had never really “been there” in front of another person before.  I was so used to confronting with my clothes or with conversational gimmicks that my space started to open up on the very first drills.

TRO bullbait was a mind-blowing experience. I could not believe how much I linecharged during this drill.  Our Course Sup monitored bullbaiting very closely to make sure that all buttons were being being done to a win and were flattened properly.

It was on this course that I got a first hand look at how an SP bullbaits: destructively and leaving buttons unflat. He was removed from the course room, his money was returned and he was escorted out of the building, all in a fifteen minute period. The entire Mission brightened up when he left the building.

To give you an idea of the value of this Comm Course, you did not graduate until you got a final pass from the Course Supervisor. When she passed me on TRO bullbait, I was completely exterior and stayed that way for days.

I had undergone many changes on this course, including a major valence shift so I came in to do my final pass in shabby work clothes and paint-spattered shoes to prove to myself that I no longer had to confront with my clothes. I was beginning to separate my professional beingness from my wardrobe.

My future started to open up at this point.

As a career Div 6er, I’ve always enjoyed hearing 1) what occured that made a person start Scientology 2) what was there first major win.

The only event we celebrated was LRH’s birthday. But every Sunday, we had Sunday service which featured speakers sharing their wins as Scientologists. My first introduction to Scientology was a Sunday service. There were 50-60 people there, light refreshments and a social atmosphere. The public looked forward to these enlightened, social gatherings. And books and services were sold, naturally, never even mentioned as a byproduct of the event. A table was set up for display and people bought them. It was at this Sunday service that I first heard the words…you are not a meat body. And, although I had never conscienciously thought those word before, I knew that they were true. I signed up for the comm course, that night.

My experience was very similar to yours. Halfway through the course, I found I was standing tall and no longer hiding. Years earlier my boyfriend’s father had pointed out that I always looked at the ground. When he said it, the significance of it was lost on me. After some TRO-Bullbait, only then, did I see that I had been introverted and hiding.

During the same time period was the HQS which consisted of basic books and upper indoc and I think even CCH’s. What a wonderful intro line up that was.

Shortly after the comm course, I was invited to join staff. It was very light and friendly, no push. I was honored that I had been asked and that someone saw a value in me that i had not yet discovered. That was 30 years ago. I will always remember warmly the person who first introduce me to Scientology. I’d only known him for a few days, a friend of my roomates…it truly was the best thing that ever happened to me.

The first time I walked into a Scientology Mission, I saw people doing the Comm Course. They were sitting looking at each other eyeball to eyeball. Right then I said, “I will NEVER do that!” Well, I didn’t realize how “out of comm” I was with other beings. I didn’t realize that I could not look people in the eye. Well, they got me to do those drills, by denying auditing to me until I pass those drills. I did them because I wanted to be “clear.” I got tortured through the first few drills but when I got to TR3, something huge happened. All of a sudden, I was so elated, I felt like I was on drugs. That was the only way I knew to describe the feeling! So to answer your question, yes, I remember when the Comm Course produced life changing wins. I have never looked back!

My girlfriend who was very shy signed up for the commcourse and the reg said i should do it too.
Why? Communication is very high on my graph and I took a comminications course in engineering!
She pushed my help button that I should do it with her as it was a twinned course.
Alright.
I was blown away.
You guys know what I mean.
I figured after, hey if that worked so well maybe I’ll try some of this auditting stuff.
Blown away again.
Definitely life begins with TR0 !!!!!

Thanks, David, for reminding me of the incredible life-changing wins I and so many others had on the Comm Course!

“Confronting with one’s clothes.” I’m still laughing out loud!

Unfortunately, confronting with the clothes is now positively encouraged within the Church. Anyone who has been on a Flag outer org training program in particular will understand instantly what this means.

Boy, do I remember those days! The old fashioned Comm Course (H.A.S.) was my very first course in Scientology, and I can say without exaggeration that it totally changed my life.

More than anything else, it’s the thing that made me a Scientologist for life. The case gains I experienced are far too many to recount here, but I’ll just say that I probably should have attested to the state of keyed out OT when I was done. Nothing in my life was ever the same.

I’ll tell you one other thing….that course was packed, day and night. And so was every other course room in the local orgs. Those were the days, when real Scientology was being delivered across the planet, and people were honestly going free.

I did my comm course twenty years ago and enjoyed it very much. I wonder what has changed meanwhile regarding this course??

PlainOldThetan  on September 26th, 2013

I think it’s pretty simple: the church fundamentally shifted from a spiritual enhancement activity that had to make money to keep the doors open…to a money-making activity that didn’t give a damn about spiritual enhancement.

Daniel Victor  on September 27th, 2013

Yes, this is the overall change.

My question is: Is bullbating different today than it was 30 years ago? Is the comm course different? And if – how?

PlainOldThetan  on September 27th, 2013

Good TR-3.

Here’s my better answer.

In RON’S JOURNAL (25 December 1963, VII:366), LRH said something important.

“A Scientologist is an auditor.”

So, when I came in to Scientology this lifetime in 1986, everybody in the org had a fairly aligned purpose: to make me an auditor.

Why? It takes auditors to clear a planet. It won’t get cleared by itself.

When I came in to Scientology the $35 “How to Achieve Effective Communication” course was what newcomers got. It was just straight TRs 0-4.

And the supervisor made sure that I did them.

I spent a whole week on TR-0. And I exteriorized with full perception. (So much for the ingrained notion that I was just a body.) And I continued to do TR-0 until I could do it for two hours, no blink, no twitch, no having to go to the bathroom.

Then I went on to TR-0 Bullbait. Which was child’s play at that point.

The supervisor had been trained in the application of THE WORLD BEGINS WITH TR0 (LRH ED 143 INT, 21 May 1971). Don’t look for it in your tech volumes or your OEC volumes. As far as I can tell, it’s vanished from the face of Scientology.

The current “communication course” is what LRH called “permissive TRs”. See HCOB 18 April 1980 TR CRITICISM. What, you can’t find that bulletin? That’s disappeared, too!

And TR-0 to the standard described in that LRH ED just isn’t done any more.

So the “communication course” just doesn’t produce Scientologists any more.

Because it doesn’t produce wins any more.
