Remember when the Comm Course produced life changing wins?
Easily Confrontable
We had 30 people doing the Comm Course in one little room at the Mission where I started on the Bridge. The Course Supervisor watched the drills like a hawk and made sure that they were being done standardly. There was no pattycake drilling in her course room and the wins were fantastic.
My first win on the Comm Course was realizing that I had never really “been there” in front of another person before. I was so used to confronting with my clothes or with conversational gimmicks that my space started to open up on the very first drills.
TRO bullbait was a mind-blowing experience. I could not believe how much I linecharged during this drill. Our Course Sup monitored bullbaiting very closely to make sure that all buttons were being being done to a win and were flattened properly.
It was on this course that I got a first hand look at how an SP bullbaits: destructively and leaving buttons unflat. He was removed from the course room, his money was returned and he was escorted out of the building, all in a fifteen minute period. The entire Mission brightened up when he left the building.
To give you an idea of the value of this Comm Course, you did not graduate until you got a final pass from the Course Supervisor. When she passed me on TRO bullbait, I was completely exterior and stayed that way for days.
I had undergone many changes on this course, including a major valence shift so I came in to do my final pass in shabby work clothes and paint-spattered shoes to prove to myself that I no longer had to confront with my clothes. I was beginning to separate my professional beingness from my wardrobe.
My future started to open up at this point.

As a career Div 6er, I’ve always enjoyed hearing 1) what occured that made a person start Scientology 2) what was there first major win.
The only event we celebrated was LRH’s birthday. But every Sunday, we had Sunday service which featured speakers sharing their wins as Scientologists. My first introduction to Scientology was a Sunday service. There were 50-60 people there, light refreshments and a social atmosphere. The public looked forward to these enlightened, social gatherings. And books and services were sold, naturally, never even mentioned as a byproduct of the event. A table was set up for display and people bought them. It was at this Sunday service that I first heard the words…you are not a meat body. And, although I had never conscienciously thought those word before, I knew that they were true. I signed up for the comm course, that night.
My experience was very similar to yours. Halfway through the course, I found I was standing tall and no longer hiding. Years earlier my boyfriend’s father had pointed out that I always looked at the ground. When he said it, the significance of it was lost on me. After some TRO-Bullbait, only then, did I see that I had been introverted and hiding.
During the same time period was the HQS which consisted of basic books and upper indoc and I think even CCH’s. What a wonderful intro line up that was.
Shortly after the comm course, I was invited to join staff. It was very light and friendly, no push. I was honored that I had been asked and that someone saw a value in me that i had not yet discovered. That was 30 years ago. I will always remember warmly the person who first introduce me to Scientology. I’d only known him for a few days, a friend of my roomates…it truly was the best thing that ever happened to me.
