Finding your way after leaving the cult of Scientology

Email exchange with a Buffalo Org staff member

I get recruiting emails every few weeks and welcome the opportunity to do a little dissemination about the amazing world of Independent Scientology. These hardworking staff members will be an asset to the independent field when they finally cognite that they are being shat upon and freedom is waiting outside the walls of the church.

Here is the latest email exchange. I have removed the staff member’s name as I do not want to see her get punished for doing her job.

Church of Scientology Buffalo,  May 20

Dear David,

Hi from Buffalo!  I see that you’re Class IV trained.  That’s well done!  Are you auditing anywhere currently?

Buffalo Org is looking for upstat Scientologists to join our theta team to take us to Saint Hill size!  We are the first pilot Ideal Org, and we’re adding to our already theta crew to really take this zone into a whole new level.

I wanted to know if you’ve ever been on staff before.  What are your thoughts on it?  I’d love to have you come and meet the Buffalo “Stampede”!  Let me know.

Hi “Staff member”,

Thanks for reaching out to me.

I was an auditor for 20 years and am a Grad V auditor. I have dedicated my life to helping people using Scientology technology and I am still active in that regard.

I am sure that you are a devoted staff member, much as I was for many years and I wonder if you are staying up on what is happening outside the Buffalo Org.

You may be ignorant of the human rights abuses that are taking place at the Int Base and in the Sea Org generally, but I am sure that you are aware of the fact that Flag has bypassed the Class V orgs and has taken over the delivery of the Bridge.

To the best of my knowledge, your org is delivering only basic services and the Ideal Org, which was funded by donations from your public, is owned by the Sea Org and you have no ownership or control of what is being done with the building.

All of your orders come from COB now and LRH policy is no longer applied. You can be severely punished if you ask to be shown a policy reference for the actions you are told to do.

When you get to the point where you no longer feel comfortable hiding the truth from your public and you begin to feel ashamed when recruiting people for lives of servitude and abuse. you might want to visit my website, possiblyhelpfuladvice.com, or the top independent site, http://markrathbun.wordpress.com/

I am currently auditing as an Independent Scientologist because of the human rights abuses and out-tech that are rampant in the CofS.

High ARC Scientology is alive and well in the independent field. You can ask all of the questions you want and you can ask for references without apologizing.  When you are ready to make your move, there will be many of us ready to help you through the transition and get established.

Feel free to visit my sites or to send me an email.

Best regards,

David St Lawrence

I feel that being a staff member never was easy, and in these suppressive times it must be pure hell. If I can grant enough beingness to those who reach out to me, perhaps I can break through the conditioning and set someone else on the road to personal freedom.

That is why I came into scientology and trained up to be an auditor. Now that the church has become a destructive cult, I am still applying what I know and helping people  achieve personal freedom.

November 6, 2010 update:

I received the same letter from the same person today. I sent her the same friendly letter as before. I wonder how many more times she will mail me before cogniting that she has done this before.

Robotism is one way of surviving the living hell that is Scientology today. but it does not contribute to a good PR image.

That’s a brilliant comm. I believe that people are naturally attracted to real scientology, and if nothing else, you have demonstrated its existence outside the church to someone who was probably previously sure that did not exist. And by comparing what you say and how you say it with what she is dealing with daily, she just might “pop out”of that reality and into the light. Actually, it’s probably inevitable. Nice job.

Thanks for the encouragement!
My earlier responses were more aggressive and did not have the intention of salvaging the staff member.

When I cognited that we need trained people out here in the field, I started viewing these comm cycles as recruiting opportunities. It is easier for me to write now when my intention is to help them break free of the trap they are in.

I noticed that the usual brush-off “get in comm” was done at the beginning of the staff member’s letter. With no response required to see if “in comm” had been achieved before unloading the sales pitch.

But you got in comm anyway.

You have such a skill at getting to the heart of the matter and with such ARC and conviction. You could have outdone Lincoln at Gettysburg.

We are most fortunate to have you in the independent field.
